Patient Privacy Notice
Your therapy practice gives you this notice to explain how it uses Speekr, a tool that helps your therapist write reports about your care. If you are a parent or guardian, "you" also means the person you care for. This notice adds to your practice's own Notice of Privacy Practices. It does not replace it.
1What is Speekr?
Your practice may provide speech-language, physical or occupational therapy. Your therapist uses Speekr to help prepare reports such as progress reports, plans of care and re-evaluations. Speekr works from records your practice already keeps, like earlier reports, evaluations and session notes.
Speekr does not record your therapy sessions. There is no audio or video recording, and nothing changes about how your sessions happen.
2What information does Speekr receive?
Speekr gets your information from your practice, not from you. Your therapist may upload or paste records such as:
- Your most recent report or evaluation
- Session notes from the system your practice already uses
- Other records that support your care
These records can include your name, health history, diagnoses, therapy goals, visit dates and progress measurements.
3How is it used?
Speekr uses these records to help your therapist draft documentation about your care. Artificial intelligence (AI) helps put together a first draft. Your therapist reviews, edits and approves every report. AI assists, but your therapist decides what goes in your record.
4Where is it stored?
Your information is stored and processed in the United States, on Amazon Web Services. It is encrypted while it is stored and while it moves over the internet.
5Who can see it?
- Clinicians and staff at your practice who have access to Speekr
- Speekr, only as needed to run and support the service, under a Business Associate Agreement with your practice. This is a contract that requires Speekr to protect your health information.
Speekr does not:
- Sell your information
- Use your information to train AI models
- Use your information for advertising
6How long is it kept?
Your information is kept in Speekr while your practice uses Speekr. If your practice stops using Speekr, your records are returned to the practice or destroyed, as set out in the practice's agreement with Speekr.
7Your rights
Your practice is responsible for your health records under HIPAA, the federal health privacy law. To use any of these rights, contact your practice:
- See or get a copy of your records
- Ask for a correction if something in your records is wrong
- Ask for limits on how your information is used or shared
- Get a list of certain times your information was shared
- File a complaint if you believe your privacy rights were not respected
